Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON / & CO. / GREENSBORO / Pa.", circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with two stenciled floral motifs above James Hamilton & Co. maker's stenciling. Freehand stripes to rim and base. Base with stenciled number 3 flanked by dashes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent condition with staining throughout. A raised 1" piece of adhered clay to reverse. A minor, glazed-over dent to left handle.
