Fine Small-Sized Anna Pottery Stoneware Snake Jug, Incised "Little Brown Jugs", Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, circa 1885, highly-ovoid jug with footed base and tooled spout, the handle in the form of a coiled snake with heavily-detailed scaling, impressed eyes, and incised mouth. Surface covered in a chocolate-brown Albany slip glaze. Shoulder incised in fine Kirkpatrick penmanship "Little Brown Jugs". A desirable Kirkpatrick form in an appealing, petite size. Excellent condition with a colored area near base of snake's tail, apparently applied over a shallow, in-the-firing separation. H (to top of snake's head) 4 1/2".
