Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT.", circa 1855, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a long-tailed bird perched on a tree stump. Unusual design, excellent size, and strong color. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a stained spot on reverse and a small glazed-over nick to front. H 11".
