Unusual Sewertile Lion Doorstop, Inscribed "Sam Watson", Ohio origin, late 19th or early 20th century, molded figure of a lion with detailed mane, reclining atop rectangular slab base with scalloped edge. Incised in large script on underside "Samuel Watson". Provenance: From a recently-surfaced collection of sewertile amassed during the 1960s and 1970s, many purchased directly from the potters themselves. A raised area on the underside keeps the doorstop from sitting flat. A few small, typical firing cracks. Some minor base chips. L 9 1/2".
