Six-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Midwestern origin, probably Ohio, circa 1860, large-sized, cylindrical jug with open strap handles and square bunghole with canted corners, the front decorated with a brushed design of a tulip plant bearing two large blossoms. Cobalt X decoration to the handles and cobalt highlights to the handle terminals. Freehand cobalt number 6 to shoulder. Cobalt highlight surrounding bunghole. A 9 1/4" slightly recessed in-the-firing crack to reverse. Two minor nicks to bunghole. An in-the-firing line at juncture of left and right handles to spout of cooler. A 5/8" reglued spout chip on reverse. H 18".
