Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Bowl with Profuse Cobalt Fuchsia Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1875, with unusual stepped rim molding, ovoid body, and arched tab handles, the front decorated with an elaborate fuchsia vine design below a freehand stripe. Base with ornate freehand number 3 surrounded by spots and flanked by wavy lines. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A rare form for this region featuring strong decoration. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example from a long-term Northeastern U.S. collection. A 1 5/8" chip to reverse end of left handle. Opposite handle with a 1 5/8" crack with tiny nicks along crack line and a small chip near reverse end. Some light exfoliation to right side of bowl's front. A 2" surface line to right side of bowl's front, not visible on interior. A minor chip to rim molding on front. 9 1/4" ; Diameter 11 5/8".
