Rare Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration and Vertical Stencil, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES", Greensboro, PA, circa 1870, ovoid jug with tapered spout and ribbed handle, decorated with a finely-brushed fuchsia vine design with scrolled stem. Stenciled "HAMILTON" in bold letters with highly-unusual vertical orientation along the right side of the jug. Front of jug stenciled "& JONES", the name "JONES" with unusual diagonal stencil. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Jug measures approximately one-and-a-half-gallons. Provenance: Descended in the family of legendary Ohio antiques dealer, Clark Garrett. Three large reglued pieces to base/underside. Chips to spout. H 14 1/2".
