Glazed Redware Jar, probably Click Pottery, Greene County, TN, circa 1830-1870, ovoid jar with visible throw lines, pronounced angular rim, and arched strap handles, the surface covered in a brownish lead-based glaze likely colored with iron oxide. Exhibited: Tennessee Turned, Earthenware and Stoneware Made in East Tennessee 1800-1900, Museum of East Tennessee History, May 16-October 30, 2011. Literature: Illustrated in Wahler, Tennessee Turned, Earthenware and Stoneware Made in East Tennessee 1800-1900, Part One, p. 69, fig. 69, and p. 201, fig. 69. Provenance: Found in Washington County, TN. Some professionally-restored surface flakes. Additional unrestored surface wear. An in-the-firing contact mark to one side. Chipping around base. Exfoliation to underside. Heavy exfoliation to interior. Wear to rim and edges of handles. H 15 1/2".
