Unusual Glazed Redware Jug, Greene County, TN origin, circa 1840-1880, narrow-bodied jug with semi-squared spout and applied handle, the surface covered in a reddish-brown lead-based glaze likely colored with iron. Exhibited: Tennessee Turned, Earthenware and Stoneware Made in East Tennessee 1800-1900, Museum of East Tennessee History, May 16-October 30, 2011. Provenance: Wahler states the following about this jug in her notes: "John Haynes bought it at a Blountville auction. First time that I have seen this form on a TN piece of pottery." Handle with large reglued broken section as well as a small in-the-firing contact mark and some edge wear. Bottom edge of jug with two small chips and some wear. A few in-the-firing pings to body of jug. An in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder of jug. Some minor wear to spout H 10 5/8".
