Rare Glazed Redware Jar, TN origin, possibly Carter County, circa 1820-1860, ovoid jar with footed base and thin, flattened rim, the surface covered in a speckled orange-to-greenish lead-based glaze including a glossy brown run to one side. Exhibited: Tennessee Turned, Earthenware and Stoneware Made in East Tennessee 1800-1900, Museum of East Tennessee History, May 16-October 30, 2011. Provenance: Found in Bybee, Cocke County, TN. Thin, spiraling crack around bottom half of jar, including a 2 3/4" vertical line ascending from it. This crack is sealed with some coloring, although no pieces were broken and reattached. Small chips and wear to foot. Exfoliation to underside. Rim chips. H 9 3/4".
