Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Table Churn, GA or AL origin, circa 1850-1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and two applied vertical handles, the midsection decorated with incised combing between two horizontal lines. Surface covered in a mottled olive-colored alkaline glaze. Circular wear pattern on interior base indicates this vessel was used as a churn. In her notes, Wahler states the following about this piece: Stockton Georgia. Looks like a John Lehman (AL) form. He went back and forth to Stockton." Wear to interior of rim and heavy chipping to inner rim for lid. A 1 1/4" hairline from rim. Small chips and wear to one handle. Minor wear to opposing handle. Some short, minor surface fissures in clay, which are glazed over. H 10 3/8".
