Rare Redware Dish with Elaborate Multi-Colored Slip Decoration, Loy or Albright Families, Alamance County, NC origin, late 18th century, thin-walled dish with rounded rim, the lead-glazed interior coated in yellowish slip and decorated in orange, manganese, and copper slip with alternating slip-trailed "fish scale" and foliate motifs around the shoulder, slip-trailed lines around the cavetto, and with a large flowering plant at center. A boldly-decorated example using four slip treatments to complete its beautifully-colored interior. A 1 3/4" loss to rim. Two cracks from rim, measuring 3 1/2" and 3". Small chips and wear to rim. Staining and significant wear to interior. Three flakes to reverse, measuring 1 3/8", 1 1/2," and 1 1/4". Diam. 11 3/4".
