Two Cobalt-Stenciled Stoneware Jars with WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1880, a rare canning jar with "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "G.W. ROBERTS & CO. / DEALERS IN / GENERAL MERCHANDISE / ELIZABETH. W.VA.," surrounding a stenciled rose, decorated with freehand stripes above and below; paired with a semi-ovoid jar, stenciled "HAGAN BROS., / DEALERS IN / STOVES AND / HARDWARE . / HUNTINGTON, W. VA." Elizabeth, WV jar with areas of restoration as well as some small, unrestored chips to inner wax sealer rim. Hagan Bros jar with a few small chips to interior of rim and areas of touch-up to cobalt. H (of taller) 9 7/8".
