Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Jackson Courthouse Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1880, tapering jar with rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "A.W. KIDD & SONS. / DEALERS IN STOVES, / GRATES, / & GENERAL HARD WARE. / JACKSON C.H. W VA." Freehand stripe decoration above and below. A 3 1/2" crack on underside, extending 5" up front. Areas of wear to cobalt. A 7/8" chip to side of rim. A small chip and some tiny nicks to interior of jar's rim. A 3" x 1/2" in-the-firing contact mark to side of jar. H 9 3/4".
