Large-Sized Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Devil Jug, Stamped "B.B. CRAIG / VALE, N.C.," early fourth quarter 20th century, ovoid jug with flaring spout, decorated with a hand-modeled and applied clay face including bulging eyes, conjoined eyebrows, large curving ears, horns, flattened nose with carved nostrils, and smiling mouth with pointed china teeth. Surface covered in a glossy, olive-colored alkaline glaze. Underside impressed with Burlon B. Craig maker's mark. Two spout chips, a portion of each chip being crookedly reglued. A minor chip to proper left horn. In-the-firing residue to bottom edge and underside, which obscures some of maker's mark. A 3/4" in-the-making chip at base. H 17 3/8".
