Very Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar, Stenciled "MARMET MINING CO. / RAYMOND CITY, W. VA," Western PA origin, circa 1880, tapering jar with semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring Marmet Mining Company stenciling surrounding two stenciled foliate devices. The first piece bearing advertising for this town that we have offered. This jar's significance is enhanced by its highly unusual mining-themed subject matter. Provenance: Black magic marker inscription on underside reads, "1.71 / # / Earl Bush / Huntington W.V. / Collection, / Best color on this merchant Jar." Two chips and two minor flakes to interior of rim. A small chip, minor chip, and minuscule nick to inner wax sealer rim. H 10 1/4".
