Rare One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Ravenswood, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "W. G. WATTS. / GENERAL MERCHANDISE. / RAVENSWOOD / W. VA." Freehand stripe decoration above and below. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with only in-the-firing flaws. A glaze drip to front. Some oversalting to reverse. A small glazed-over chip near base on front. A small in-the-firing contact mark at base. Underside of jar is slightly raised. H 9 3/4".
