Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Letart, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, tapering jar with semi-squared "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "GEORGE W. GIST & SON. / DEALER IN GENERAL / MERCHANDISE / LETART. W. VA.," including a stenciled vine motif. Freehand stripe decoration above and below. Nicks to reverse. Traces of old blue paint to surface. Inner wax sealer rim with a 5/8" chip and two minor chips. A small chip and minor wear to interior of rim. A tiny in-the-firing ping to front. A 2 1/2" line in underside, extending 3 3/8" up proper left side of jar. Some minor staining. H 10 3/8".
