Very Rare Cobalt-Stenciled Stoneware Canning Jar with New Martinsville, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1885, wide, tapering jar with rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "W. McG. HALL. / DEALER IN / GENERAL / MERCHANDISE / NEW MARTINSVILLE / W. VA." Only the second piece featuring advertising for this town that we have offered and the first bearing this firm name. Two chips to interior of rim. Chipping to inner wax sealer rim. A small in-the-firing contact mark at base. Areas of light staining to surface. H 7 7/8".
