Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Sistersville, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, tapering jar with tooled shoulder and semi-squared "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "PIERPOINT & McCORMICK. / DRY GOODS, / GROCERIES AND / NOTIONS. / SISTERSVILLE / W. VA." An approximately 4 1/4" x 1 3/4" inverted U-shaped surface line at base, continuing onto underside, where it forms a second 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" U-shaped surface line. This entire line, forming a complete oval, does not extend through to the interior. Light wear to cobalt. A small chip and two minor nicks to interior of rim. Some light staining. H 9 1/2".
