Rare Cobalt-Stenciled Stoneware Canning Jar with Moundsville, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, tapering jar with squared "wax sealer" rim, stenciled "ROBERTS & THOMAS, / DEALERS IN DRY GOODS / MOUNDSVILLE . / W . VA.," incorporating foliate stenciling. This jar and another in this auction are the only Moundsville, WV advertising pieces that we have ever offered. A 1/2" chip to interior of rim. Some shallow chipping to inner wax sealer rim. An in-the-firing ping to front and reverse. Minor staining. H 8 1/8".
