Very Rare Cobalt-Stenciled Stoneware Jar with Guyandotte, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "J. K. SUITER. / DEALER IN / GEN. MERCHANDISE / GUYANDOTTE, W. VA." The first piece bearing advertising for this town that we have offered. A 5/8" glazed-over ping to rim on reverse. Light surface wear of jar. Some wear to cobalt. A 1 1/8" vertical surface line to base, not visible on interior. A few minor in-the-firing chips to bottom edge. Rim is somewhat out of round. H 10".
