Very Rare Cobalt-Stenciled Stoneware Jar with Rivesville, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "I. HESS. / MERCHANT / RIVESVILLE. / W.VA," accented with geometric flourishes. One of only three pieces with Rivesville stenciling that we have ever offered. Interior of rim with a small chip and small in-the-firing flake. A minor base chip. A few tiny to small in-the-firing pings to surface. Some staining. A salt drip to underside. H 8".
