Redware Bowl with Three-Color Slip Decoration, Mid-Atlantic origin, possibly Hagerstown, MD, possibly John Bell, circa 1810-1830, ovoid form with footed base and flaring rim, the exterior dipped in yellow slip and decorated around the rim with sponged manganese daubs and around the base with sponged copper daubs. Interior decorated with sponged manganese around the interior of the rim and coated in a clear lead glaze. This bowl features a glaze treatment related to works by John Bell and may be an early creation by his hand. Old repaired breaks including damage and restoration along the reglued sections. A 7/8" flake to side. Significant flaking to interior. A few base chips. Wear to rim. Provenance: From a fifty-year New England collection. Diam. (at rim) 5 5/8" ; H 3 1/8".
