Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Starburst Decoration, Stamped "ALBANY NY," probably R. O'Connell Pottery, Albany, NY, circa 1860, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed motif of a star composed of numerous dashes surrounding a circular center, its rays interspersed with spiraling designs. Cobalt accents to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: James Chebalo Collection. Significant restoration to surface of jar involving some of decoration. Unrestored sealed cracks in underside. A 1 1/8" rim chip on reverse. Two small chips to interior of rim. H 12 3/8".
