Fine Large-Sized Stoneware Snake Jug with Alkaline Glaze, attributed to Burlon B. Craig, Vale, NC, early fourth quarter 20th century, ovoid jug with flared spout, two ridged open handles, and incised line decoration to the upper body, featuring two hand-modeled clay snakes with open mouths and kaolin eyes applied at the shoulder. Surface covered in a mottled olive-to-cream-green alkaline with glass runs to upper body and iron spotting throughout. Unmarked. The finest Craig snake jug that we have offered, noteworthy for its prodigious size and double snake application. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 20".
