One-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to R.J. Grier, Mt. Jordan Pottery, Chester Co., PA, circa 1875, wide, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with pairs of double-blossomed floral motifs on the front and reverse. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals along with a scalloped line below each handle. Includes fitting swag-decorated lid, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1885. Crock with a firing crack descending from rim on interior, visible as a slightly-recessed area on exterior, in otherwise excellent condition. Flange on underside of lid with a 2 1/4" flake, two smaller flakes, and a minor chip. Edge of lid with a few minor to small chips. A tiny in-the-firing ping to knob on top of lid. Dimensions (of cake crock): 9 3/4" x 5 /2" ; Diam. (of lid): 10 1/2".
