Exceptional One-Gallon Manor Station, PA Stoneware Advertising Jug with Profuse Cobalt Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1880, semi-ovoid jug with tooled spout, featuring the stenciled advertising, "DOMNICK FRY. / PURE RYE. / WHISKEY. / MANOR STATION, / PA.," incorporating small stenciled flourishes including two arrows. Advertising surrounded by extravagant dash and stripe decorations. Cobalt highlight to upper handle terminal. A particularly fine example of Western Pennsylvania advertising stoneware, combining scarce merchant stenciling with unusually strong brushwork. Excellent condition with an in-the-firing contact mark to front and a 7/8" in-the-firing line at base. H 12".
