Very Fine Manganese-Decorated Redware Butter Tub, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, wide, cylindrical form with footed base, raised moldings to midsection, and semi-rounded rim fitted with two ropetwist handles, resting on three applied feet. Surface decorated with heavy manganese sponging over a yellow clay ground and covered in a clear lead glaze. Among the finest John Bell butter tubs that we have ever offered, this example is noteworthy for its large size, beautiful color, and immaculate condition. Excellent, essentially as-made condition.
