Cobalt-Banded Stoneware Mug, Stamped "F HEYDE / NO 648 4TH ST. N Y," New York State origin, mid to late 19th century, straight-sided mug decorated with two brushed cobalt bands under a clear salt glaze. Impressed "F HEYDE" mark on underside. Frederick Heyde was a pewter smith in New York City. It is likely that mugs of this type were made for him to sell bearing the metal lids he produced. Very nice condition. Underside with a 2 1/4" surface line, not visible on interior, and a salt drip. Some bubbling to cobalt at base. H 4 1/4".
