Three-Gallon Fall River, MA Stoneware Advertising Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Somerset Potters Works, Somerset, MA, circa 1870, cylindrical jug with broad, tiered spout, decorated with a stylized, slip-trailed floral design featuring a daisy-shaped blossom, curled stems, and spots. Impressed above with the cobalt-highlighted advertising, "W.A. WINTER / FALL RIVER." Provenance: From a fifty-year VA collection. Spout with a chip and short surface crack to outer edge, the inner edge with two minor nicks. Various in-the-firing contact marks in the form of surface chips and small adhered pieces of clay. A 5" crack in underside, forming a long T at base. Staining and residue to surface. H 16 1/2".
