Extremely Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Game Bird Decoration, Stamped "F. STETZENMEYER & Co. / ROCHESTER,N.Y.," circa 1855, ovoid jug with thick, semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a plump bird with turned head and profuse feather detail, standing atop a stylized ground with shrub. Slip-trailed "2" above. Significant restoration throughout, including decoration. Two in-the-firing surface cracks on underside, measuring 3 3/4" and 1 3/4", which do not extend through to interior. A very minor in-the-firing surface chip and ping to spout. H 14 1/2".
