Rare Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Charlotte, NC Advertising, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, featuring the impressed and cobalt-highlighted advertising, "FROM / JAMES. HARTY / CHARLOTTE. N-C." Brush-decorated with a swag motif around the shoulder. Relatively few examples of Baltimore stoneware made for North Carolina merchants are known. Very nice condition. A 3/4" flake to underside. A small chip and nick to interior of rim. A minor, glazed-over chip to exterior of rim. A tiny nick to molding below rim. H 12 1/2".
