Rare York, PA Stoneware Advertising Jar, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-squared spout, featuring the impressed and cobalt-highlighted advertising, "FROM / CHA. A. KLINEFELTER / MAINE ST WEST OF / THE BRIDGE." Charles A. Klinefelter was a long-time York, Pennsylvania, merchant. Main Street (spelled here "Maine") is now Market Street, and the bridge would have been the one over the Codorus Creek, which runs through the city. Shoulder decorated with two brushed foliate motifs. Rim chips, some of which are glazed over. A very minor base chip. A very minor, 3/8" in-the-firing U-shaped surface line at base, not visible on interior. H 8 1/2".
