Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Freehand Cobalt Decoration, attributed to A.V. Boughner, Greensboro, PA, circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled midsection and semi-rounded rim, decorated across the upper body with a freehand vine between straight and wavy freehand stripes, above a cobalt-script "2" surrounded by four groups of dashes. Additional straight and wavy stripe decoration to base. A 6" crack from rim on proper left side of jar. A small piece of adhered clay to shoulder on front. Minor surface wear. H 10 1/8".
