Very Rare Five-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Churn, Stenciled "ALDERMAN & SCOTT / BELPRE OHIO," circa 1880, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a flowering plant below an underscored "5." The churn shows a strong A.P. Donaghho influence as this business was located directly across the Ohio River from Parkersburg, West Virginia, where Donaghho's pottery was located. Staining to surface. Very large in-the-firing flaws to reverse. An in-the-firing ping to bottom edge and a small in-the-firing ping near base on proper left side of churn. H 16 7/8".
