Very Rare Two-Gallon Cobalt-Stenciled Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "ALDERMAN & SCOTT / BELPRE OHIO," circa 1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, featuring the stenciled firm mark, "ALDERMAN & SCOTT / BELPRE OHIO," between bands of foliate stenciling with stenciled diamond motifs above. Stenciled "2" to shoulder. The jar shows a strong A.P. Donaghho influence as this business was located directly across the Ohio River from Parkersburg, West Virginia, where Donaghho's pottery was located. Restoration around base. Some staining to surface. H 12 1/2".
