Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Profuse Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "JAMES HAMILTON & Co. / GREENSBORO, Pa.," circa 1870, semi-ovoid jar with incised banding to midsection, tooled shoulder, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with freehand stripes and vining to the upper body, a stenciled James Hamilton maker's mark underscored by stripes at the midsection, and a scrolled "2" flanked by graduated dashes at the base, underscored by a freehand stripe. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a salt drip to front. H 11 3/4".
