Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "B.C. MILBURN / ALEXA," Alexandria, VA origin, circa 1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front with a slip-trailed design of a tulip flanked by two horizontal tulips with unusual spotted centers. Wavy line decoration above. Reverse with four rows of straight and wavy slip-trailed line decoration above a series of conjoined chain links. Some wear and whitish residue at base of design on front. A 1 1/8" flake to underside at edge. Shallow chipping around base. A salt drip to reverse. A small chip to one handle and minor nick to opposite handle. H 10 1/4".
