Two Pieces of Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware, American, second half 19th century, a half-gallon advertising jar, stamped "GEO. E. WALES / NEWTON CENTRE, MASS.", with rare original paper label for "GEO. E. WALES / HOME / MADE / RED CURRANT JELLY / NEWTON CENTRE, MASS."; paired with cake crock with cobalt foliate decoration, attributed to Henry H. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA. Provenance: Collection of Lorren Lambert, Staunton, VA. Wales jar with later lamp conversion, a small rim chip on reverse, and a short, glazed-over line at base on reverse. Cake crock with restoration to front, reverse, and underside, as well as unrestored rim chips. H (of jar) 6 7/8". H (of cake crock) 5 1/2" ; Diameter (of cake crock) 10".
