Rare Pennsylvania-German Sgraffito Redware Charger with Elaborate Bird and Floral Decorations, attributed to Thomas Strawhen, Haycock Township, Bucks County, PA, late 18th or early 19th century, with incised floral border surrounding a turned head, reclining bird beside a flowering plant. Surface decorated with yellowish slip and green highlights under a clear lead glaze. For an example by the same maker, see Garvan's The Pennsylvania-German Collection, p. 202, fig. 135. Old restoration to glaze loss. Two sealed cracks, measuring approximately 4" and 7". Diameter 13 1/2".
