Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITES.UTICA," NY State origin, circa 1865, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a fan-tailed bird perched on a stylized vine. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A 2 3/8" line under proper right handle, not visible on interior. An approximately 1 5/8" flake to proper right handle. Left handle with a 5/8" chipped section to front terminal and edge wear. An approximately 4 1/4" fork-shaped line on underside, part of which extends 3" up base. Some bubbling to cobalt. Staining to surface. Flecks of old red paint to surface. H 9 3/4".
