Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Watch Spring Decoration, Manhattan, NY or New Jersey origin, circa 1775, ovoid jar with open loop handles, footed base, and heavily-tooled shoulder, decorated on the front and reverse with a slip-trailed watch spring design. Additional watch spring motifs under each handle. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A sealed crack from rim on one side. Additional thin cracks and crazing throughout. Exfoliation to surface and underside. Base chips. Traces of green paint to surface.
