Scarce Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Figure of a Rooster, Signed "E.M.," Edwin Meaders, Cleveland, GA, circa 1970, wheel-thrown and hand-modeled figure of a rooster with applied, cobalt-highlighted eyes and saw-toothed details to comb and tail, the surface covered in a mottled green alkaline glaze. Underside incised "E.M." This rooster was produced very early in Meaders' career and is modeled after the work of his mother, Arie, in its forward-facing stance, glaze, and initialed signature. Examples from this time period are typica;y smaller and significantly rarer than those from the late 1980s through the 1990s, when they were produced on a much larger scale. Some professional restoration to comb and beak. H 13 3/4".
