Exceptional Eight-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "WHITE & WOOD / BINGHAMTON, N.Y.," circa 1885, large-sized, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a very large brushed and slip-trailed design of a flowering plant featuring spade-shaped leaves surrounding a daisy-shaped blossom. With exceptional size and detail to the decoration, this churn ranks among the finest examples of Binghamton / Utica stoneware from this period that we have ever offered. The extreme vibrancy of the cobalt blue and very fine execution of the design on such a large form create a truly captivating object when viewed in person. A small chip to one handle. A 1" rim chip on reverse. A shallow, smooth 7/8" rim chip on front. Small chips to inner rim for lid. Minor wear to decoration. H 19 1/2".
