Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Parrot Decoration, Stamped "S,L, PEWTRESS & CO / FAIR HAVEN CONN," circa 1870, cylindrical jar with rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large crested parrot perched in the crook of two leafy branches. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Approximately 7 1/2" horizontal crack extending from reverse to side of jar. Two in-the-firing chips / contact marks to side of jar. An additional in-the-firing contact mark to opposite side of jar. 2 1/2" vertical line at base on front, not visible on interior.
