One-Gallon Staunton, VA Cobalt-Stenciled Advertising Cream Jar, West Virginia or Western PA origin, circa 1880, ovoid jar with rounded rim, stenciled in cobalt "I.H. PLECKER / STAUNTON. VA." A stenciled arrow underscores the maker's name. Stenciled 1 flanked by leaves below advertising. Jar is out of round. Contact marks on reverse. Poorly restored 1 1/8" rim chip on front. 1 1/4" narrow base chip, which probably occurred in the firing. Light fry to cobalt. H 8 1/4".
