Rare Stoneware Spittoon with Elaborate Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "TAUNTON, MASS.", Standish & Wright, Taunton, Massachusetts origin, circa 1850, with footed base, heavy rounded rim, and carved semi-circular opening at shoulder, the body profusely-decorated with three large scrolled foliate motifs. Impressed on body with rare "TAUNTON, MASS." maker's mark above a stamped "2". Albany slip to top surface. Two hairlines to top, emanating from the central hole, including a minuscule nick to one of these lines. H 3 1/2" ; Diameter (across base) 7 1/2".
