Scarce Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Large Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "F T WRIGHT & SON / TAUNTON MASS," circa 1875, large-sized, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird with oversized crest, perched on a tree stump surrounded by shrubs, including a long spotted trail. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Exceptional size. A chip and minor nick to interior of rim. Water glass staining to interior. A thin 4" crack on underside, continuing 9" up side of crock. H 13 1/4".
