Scarce "JAS. HAMILTON" Cobalt-Stenciled Stoneware Butter Crock, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1875, low, straight-sided form with rounded rim, stenciled in cobalt "JAS. HAMILTON / & CO. / GREENSBORO / PA." Small stenciled stars flank the stenciling "& CO." An unusual form in Western PA stoneware. As-made condition with a glazed-over stone ping and bloated spot on reverse. Light traces of old green and silver paint. H 5 3/8" ; Diameter 9".
